Doctor Alibi – Acoustic Slash Cover
|
Only a few weeks since release and it looks like there's already a handful of covers of this song. But, as far as I can tell, I'm the first person to post an acoustic rendition ;-) This is the 8th track from the album featuring Lemmy on vocals. I wasn't about to attempt to impersonate Lemmy so you'll be listening to an instrumental version complete with my rendition of a Slash inspired acoustic solo. As usual, it's been simplified for my playing pleasure and, yes, I realize that the bridge is probably a bit incorrect. As I say, nothing's perfect ;-)
Anyways, if you're a Slash fan and you haven't purchased his new album (conveniently entitled 'Slash'), well, shame on you. Go out and pick it up! Well, watch this video first then go pick it up! |

It’s Alright – Black Sabbath Cover
|
I neither have a piano nor can I play the piano, but, I enjoy this short and sweet Sabbath tune. So, I decided to record a guitar driven rendition of the song... complete with some less-than-impressive vocals ;-)
I hope someone enjoys it! |

Gather ‘Round The Pole – A Festivus Carol
|
What do you get when you combine a light-hearted request from a friend with about 10 minutes worth of effort? You get a Festivus Carol, of course! Presented with some lyrics, a simple chord progression and underlying melody were created, recorded, and now uploaded to the Web for all the world to see. The sound quality isn't ideal nor is the singing. But, it was fun to make ;-)
For everyone who's grown weary of the hoopla surrounding the "normal" late December holidays, this little tune is for you.
Hope someone enjoys it!
p.s. Thanks Kristy for discovering the lyrics
Lyrics:
Back in 1844 The Festivus snail was heard to roar.
That ol snail sure caused a fuss. His roar brought us Festivus.
Gather 'round the Pole young wishers. Gather 'round to toss your washers.
Gather 'round the rest of us. The time has come for Festivus! |

White Christmas
|
It's that time of year again.... time for another attempt at a Christmas tune. For this video, I decided to try a short and simple rendition of the 1940s hit "White Christmas." Anyone familiar with Gary Hoey's work will probably immediately notice that his rendition of this tune served as my inspiration.
Hope someone enjoys it and (early) Merry Christmas (if you celebrate it. Otherwise, Happy Holidays)!! |

Beverly Hills – Acoustic Weezer Cover
|
Another simple one this week. With three chords and a couple solos Weezer made themselves a catchy little tune to kick off their Make Believe CD. This is my acoustic take on the song. As my rendition of the song has a couple different guitar tracks, the audio was recorded first then synced to the video. Also, since the 2nd solo was just something that I improved, a 2nd video was recorded during the audio recording and blended into the final video
Hope someone enjoys it!
p.s. This is one of the few songs I've recorded while actually listening to the original. As such, if you listen real close, you might just hear Rivers softly singing in the background ;-) |

Doesn’t Remind Me – Abridged Acoustic Audioslave Cover
|
From Out of Exile, Doesn't Remind Me is just another one of those tunes that I enjoy strumming. My rendition has chopped out a bit from each verse and, I think, I removed a chorus that supposed to follow the solo... and, yes, I did create a simplified/re-imagined solo included in the song.
As there are a couple audio tracks in the recording, two videos were recorded then spliced together after the fact to create the final version.
Not as good as the Audioslave original and with a some warts here and there, I enjoyed creating it. Hope you enjoy listening to it! |

The Dark Clouds Above – Acoustic Tom Morello Cover
|
Another example of simplicity in song writing. Three chords is all Tom Morello needed to create this ditty. The Dark Clouds Above is the 12th track from Tom's One Man Revolution CD.
During my initial recording, I attempted to sing this tune. In the end, I figured the best path forward was to spare everyone my vocal styling this time around. Thus, in lieu of singing, I came up with a simple "vocal" track to add a bit more dimension to the song. Unfortunately, my camera wasn't rolling when I recorded the "vocal" track. So, there's no picture-in-picture of both parts of the tune this time around.
The guitar was tuned down a 1/2 step which is lower than how Tom plays it. Hope someone enjoys it! |

Just Breathe – Acoustic Pearl Jam Cover with Guest Vocals
|
Just Breathe is the 5th track from Pearl Jam's latest album Backspacer. My rendition is a bit slower than the original, a bit more simplified and, as usual, contains a few errors. Suffice to say, it doesn't quite sound exactly like the album version. But, I enjoy playing it. This time around, a buddy of mine also decided to join in the fun and lent his voice to the vocal track of this tune. While obviously not Eddie's voice, I was quite pleased with the results :-)
Enjoy! |

Dead Horse – Acoustic Guns ‘n Roses Cover
September 12, 2009 · Posted in FussenKuh · Comments Off

Alrighty, I didn't have as much time to refine this tune to my liking. But, hey, I'll never be perfect ;-) Here's GnR's Dead Horse played acoustically. Unfortunately, the microphone didn't want to play nicely so, there's a few more pops and static than normal and the mix isn't quite the best. Oh, and yes, the solo doesn't quite follow the original and, yes, it's ever so slightly longer as well.
Hope someone enjoys it! |

Final Cut (Original)

Another original tune. This was something I was tinkering around with a year or so ago and figured it may be worth sharing. As the banner in the video implies, the song is still a work in progress... mainly because it needs some lyrics... which I don't think I'll ever be able to produce ;-)
At any rate, the song obviously has multiple tracks mixed together (including a simple drum machine track). As such, the video was synced to the audio after the fact.
Good, bad or ugly, let me know what you think and enjoy! |

Lonely Day – System of a Down Acoustic Cover
August 15, 2009 · Posted in FussenKuh · Comments Off

I can't say that I'm a huge System of a Down fan. However, there are a select few songs that I really enjoy from the band. Lonely Day is one of that select few. Maybe it's because Lonely Day is written by System's guitarist or because it shares a similar sound with The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun." Whatever the reason for liking it, I present my acoustic rendition of the tune. As I didn't want to attempt to sing the song, I layered my instrumental interpretation of "vocals" over the basic rhythm complete with simplified solo.
As always, it's not perfect, but, I hope someone enjoys it!
Oh yeah, and, yes, there is a little bit of "War Pigs" influence introduced into the song towards the end ;-) |

Beggars and Hangers-On Solo – Slash’s Snakepit Cover
August 1, 2009 · Posted in FussenKuh · Comments Off
|
From their 1995 debut album, this is the solo from the song Beggars and Hangers-On by Slash's Snakepit. As I figured out the solo by ear, I doubt it captures Slash's playing 100% fatefully, but, I think it's pretty close.
Enjoy! |

Immortality – Acoustic Pearl Jam Cover (with guest vocals)
July 18, 2009 · Posted in FussenKuh · Comments Off

In my opinion, Immortality is a gem of a song from Pearl Jam's Vitalogy album. It's a fairly straight forward song which, I think, makes it all the more fun to play. All the better, I think it lends itself nicely to an acoustic rendition. Inspired by listening to Mr. McCready's various live acoustic renditions, I decided to record my own rendition. The solos have been simplified to play easier on an acoustic and to match my playing ability ;-)
I knew there would be no way I'd be able to even come close to singing this little ditty. Thanks to the beauty of the Interwebs, I didn't have to. A fellow YouTuber by the name of JellyfishLandmine contacted me after hearing some of my other PJ acoustic covers. He was interested in lending his pipes to some future videos. As a result of that messaging, vocals for this tune come complements of JellyfishLandmine.
Due to the multiple tracks (and multiple recording locations), the guitar and vocals were recorded first then synced to the video. And, yes, the video was recorded before I had my new higher resolution camera. So, things look a bit more grainy than my last few videos.
As usual, nothing's perfect and this collaboration is no different. But, I have to say, it was a interesting collaboration and I certainly had fun doing it. Here's hoping someone enjoys watching it!
NOTE: If you'd prefer an instrumental version of the tune, check out my other rendition of Immortality. |
